RGB vs Addressable (SPI)

Both are sold as 'colour changing'. Only one of them can run a chase, a gradient, or a pixel-mapped image.

What is the difference between RGB and addressable (SPI) strip?

On RGB strip every LED shows the same color at the same time, because the whole run shares three channels. On addressable SPI strip each LED or small group carries its own driver IC and can be set independently, which is what makes chases, gradients, and pixel-mapped video possible. Addressable runs need a data-capable controller and are more sensitive to run length and signal integrity.
